Based on Ayurveda and ancient Chinese Medicine, suggests acne's specific location could be signaling an underlying health issue. This is a very popular concept right now among beauty gurus and it seems like everyone has already written about it.

Dr. Shapiro maps out what eight acne hot zones could be trying to tell you about your health. Keep in mind, having a pimple or two in one of these areas doesn't automatically mean you have a serious health issue, But if you have chronic acne that you can't squash no matter how hard you try, it might be worth asking your doctor to look into a potential internal link. 


Forehead: Digestive System and Bladder

It can result from toxins and lack of water. Drink more water and incorporate fresh fruits in your meal plan. Make sure you drink water throughout the day and avoid fizzy and caffeinated drinks as much as possible.


T-Zone: Liver

Your nose is linked to the liver. Acne here could potentially signify liver dysfunction. You may need to cut back on the alcohol.  Slow down party people. 


Around the eyes and Ears: Kidneys

This area is connected to the health of the kidneys. Dark circle under eyes may signify that the kidneys are malfunctioning or that you are dehydrated. So get some sleep and hydrate yourself.


Upper Cheeks: Respiratory System

Inhaling air pollution can contribute to this. If you are a smoker, you may notices increased breakouts and broken capillaries in these. It as well can caused by bacteria on the surface or your cell phone or sleeping on a dirty pillowcase.


Lower Cheeks: Poor Dental Hygiene


According to Shapiro regularly brushing, flossing and avoiding sugary foods and drinks will improve oral hygiene and blemished associated with it

Nose: Heart


A breakout in this area can be directly related blood pressure. Check your and make adjustment to your lifestyle if needed. Avoid energy drinks, reduce salt intake and eat more fruits and vegetables to promote heart health and low blood pressure


Chin: Stomach

Chin is lined to the small intestine. Breakouts in this area may indicate.  Diet changes can make a huge difference.
